Moonville

VINTON, OH - May 4, 2015
I will start off by saying that this trip made my parents and I feel really stupid. Well my mom was right is basically the gist of this. So my parents and I decide to go find this old abandoned train tunnel. We ended up getting extremely lost. Every person that we asked for directions gave us very poor or very wrong directions, and the directions I had from the internet were so bad that we were better off not following them at all.
Finally we get to where we can see the actual tunnel but there was no way to it because there was a stream running down where you would get to it. We decide that the best way to get to it would be if we climbed down the hill side. My mom stayed in the car because she couldn't climb down the hill.

So my dad and I start climbing down the hill. We were doing pretty well until a few hours later, we got lost in the woods. As I was walking, proudly wearing my brand new Vans, I fell in a hole. my shoes were covered in mud, dirt, leaves, and sand. I had the worst blisters on my heels that I have ever had in my life. I mean I guess I should have expected that I would fall at some point. After being lost for about an hour, we decided to go back and just walk through the creek regardless of how deep it was.

We finally get to the top and decide to listen to what my mom had to say. She said that there is a trail close to where we turned on to the road we were on. We go back to where she told us, sure enough there was a trail, place to park and everything. So basically we drove past the easiest way to get to it.
We begin walking the trail which followed the stream. There were butterflies everywhere and the stream was actually really clear. Walking that trail took less than 20 minutes. I got over to the creek and washed the sand and dirt and everything else out of my shoes. Finally I see the tunnel. Huge and intriguing.
We began walking through the tunnel and looking at the massive size. But of course it has to be massive to fit a train through there. The railroad tracks were taken up years ago. But the tunnel still is there. Along with its history.

I walked around the inside of the tunnel and looked at all the graffiti. As much as I hate graffiti on historic things, I have to admit that it looked really cool in this tunnel. It made it seem really eerie. Would I go back here? Possibly...
